240 A minimum, 200-480 V — the operating envelope
The 3RW5248-2TC04 is a SIRIUS hybrid switching device rated for a minimum operating current of 240 A across a 200-480 V supply range. That 240 A floor governs the smallest settable motor full-load current the unit can regulate — set the ramp below it and the internal current loop loses resolution, so the BOM motor FLA must land at or above that figure. Trip class is configurable as CLASS 10A (default), 10E, or 20E per IEC 60947-4-2. Stepping to 20E buys you double the thermal budget for high-inertia conveyors or crusher drums that take longer to spin up.
Mounting clearances and thermal derating
Screw-fixed mounting on a vertical surface, rotatable ±90° or tiltable ±22.5° front-to-back. The mandatory free-air clearances are 100 mm upwards, 75 mm downwards, 10 mm forwards, 5 mm at the sides, and zero backwards — stack that against the gland-plate and busbar layout before committing the panel layout. The 393 × 210 × 203 mm envelope (height × width × depth) sets the DIN-rail or backplate footprint. A 50 °C cabinet interior pulls the continuous current capability down — the exact curve is in the product documentation, but the rule of thumb is to budget 1-2% per degree above 40 °C for the SIRIUS 3RW52 family. Pollution degree 3 per IEC 60947-4-2 means the unit tolerates conductive dust and condensation typical of industrial enclosures without conformal coating.
Fieldbus selection and control features
The soft starter ships with onboard PROFIBUS, Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP, EtherNet/IP, and PROFINET — no separate communication module needed for any of these five protocols. PROFIenergy is supported when used with the PROFINET standard communication module, letting the drive coordinate energy-saving pauses during production idle periods. Soft torque and pump ramp down are built in — the ramp-down profile reduces pressure surges on discharge lines during pump stop sequences. Auto-reset is available, and remote reset is achieved by cycling the 24 V control supply off and on. The unit logs errors to an internal logbook, though that requires the special accessory module.

CE marking, UL approval, and CSA approval are all confirmed on the nameplate — the unit carries acceptance for European low-voltage directive, North American NRTL listing, and Canadian standards. The pollution degree 3 rating and IEC 60947-4-2 trip-class certification cover the functional safety and environmental withstand for fixed-installation industrial motor control. Shock resistance is specified at 15 g / 11 ms, with potential contact lifting above 12 g / 11 ms — relevant for installation on vibrating skids or near reciprocating compressors where the panel sees repetitive impulse loads.
