Trip class and motor protection — what the 10A/10E/20E/30E means
The 3RW5513-3HA05 offers selectable trip classes 10A, 10E (default), 20E, and 30E per IEC 60947-4-2. Default is 10E, which matches most pump and fan applications without nuisance tripping.
ATEX and IECEx — certified for explosive atmospheres
Both ATEX and IECEx certifications are listed on this unit. That means the soft starter is approved for installation in Zone 1 or Zone 2 gas atmospheres and Zone 21 or Zone 22 dust atmospheres, per the ATEX 2014/34/EU directive and the IECEx Scheme. The certifications cover the enclosure and the internal electronics — no external barrier or purge system is required for the starter itself. For a motor starter in a hazardous area, this is the difference between a standard panel and a certified installation.
Fieldbus and control — Modbus TCP, PROFIBUS, analog output
The 3RW5513-3HA05 ships with PROFIBUS DP and Modbus TCP onboard — no separate communication module needed for either protocol. The analog output is configurable as 4-20 mA (default) or 0-10 V, feeding motor current, voltage, or power to a PLC or local display. PROFIenergy is supported when paired with a PROFINET communication module, allowing the starter to participate in energy-management profiles during idle periods.
Application features — pump ramp down, torque control, breakaway pulse
Pump ramp down reduces the voltage gradually during deceleration, preventing water hammer in pipeline systems. Torque control lets you set a current limit during start — useful for soft-starting conveyors or mixers where a hard start would shift the load. The breakaway pulse delivers a short high-torque burst to break static friction before the voltage ramp begins, common in crushers and positive-displacement pumps. DC braking is also available for rapid stopping without a mechanical brake.
Mounting and clearance — fits a standard panel layout
The unit measures 275 mm high, 170 mm wide, and 152 mm deep. Clearance requirements: 100 mm above, 75 mm below, 10 mm forward, 0 mm backward, 5 mm at the sides. That zero backward clearance means it can sit flush against a backplate — useful when panel depth is tight. The power terminals accept solid conductors: 2x (1.0-2.5 mm²) and 2x (2.5-10 mm²).
