The Siemens 3RW5513-3HA15 is a SIRIUS soft starter for three-phase induction motors on a 200…600 V supply. Trip class CLASS 10A / 10E (default) / 20E / 30E per IEC 60947-4-2 governs disconnect time during a stall or overload. Control power is 110…250 V at 50 or 60 Hz, so it accepts common panel voltages without a separate transformer. The analog output defaults to 4…20 mA but can be switched to 0…10 V — useful for feeding a PLC analog input or a local meter without an external signal conditioner. ATEX and IECEx certification (both listed as Yes) means this unit is approved for installation in potentially explosive atmospheres.
The unit measures 170 mm wide × 275 mm high × 152 mm deep. Forced-air clearance: 100 mm above, 75 mm below, 10 mm in front, 0 mm behind, and 5 mm at the sides. That 0 mm rear clearance means it can sit flush against a backplate — useful when panel depth is tight. The 5 mm side gap is minimal; adjacent devices won't crowd the airflow as long as you respect the vertical spacing. Power terminals accept 2× (1.0…2.5 mm²) or 2× (2.5…10 mm²) solid/stranded conductors. No screw terminals — the connection type is not listed as screw, so expect spring-cage or ring-lug terminations; verify the lug type against your panel wiring practice.
Communication and control features
PROFIBUS is built in (Yes), so no separate communication module is needed for a PROFIBUS DP network. Modbus TCP is also supported; Modbus RTU and EtherNet/IP are not. For PROFINET environments, PROFIenergy is available when paired with a PROFINET High-Feature communication module — useful for energy-management profiles during idle phases. The starter includes voltage ramp, pump ramp down, torque control, breakaway pulse, DC braking, and motor heating. Service factor is 1.15. Diagnostics include an event list, error logbook, and trace function. The unit supports auto-reset and remote reset, and firmware can be updated in the field. Up to four parameterizable sets are available — handy if the same starter serves multiple motor sizes or duty cycles.
Approvals and sourcing
UL and CSA approvals are listed (Yes), so the unit carries a cULus mark for North American panels. CE marking is also present. The ATEX and IECEx certifications are the key regulatory differentiator for hazardous-location installations.
