What this soft starter does on a motor line
The Siemens 3RW5514-1HA04 is a solid-state soft starter in the SIRIUS 3RW55 family, sized for three-phase induction motors on a 200-480 V supply. It ramps voltage up during start to limit inrush current and torque, then bypasses internally once the motor is at speed — no external contactor needed for the run path. Trip Class is selectable: CLASS 10A / 10E (default) / 20E / 30E per IEC 60947-4-2. That means you match the overload curve to the load — 10A for normal-start pumps and fans, 20E or 30E for high-inertia loads like centrifuges or crushers that need a longer acceleration ramp without nuisance tripping. ATEX and IECEx certification are both marked Yes.
Fieldbus and control integration
Communication is handled onboard: PROFIBUS DP, Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP, and EtherNet/IP are all supported. PROFIenergy is supported when paired with a PROFINET communication module. That lets the drive park the motor during idle periods and log energy data — useful on conveyor lines or machine tools where the spindle stops between cycles. Analog output is configurable as 4-20 mA (default) or 0-10 V, so you can feed motor current or torque to a PLC analog input or a panel meter without a separate transducer.
Dimensions are 170 mm wide, 275 mm high, 152 mm deep. Power terminals accept 2x (1.0-2.5 mm²) and 2x (2.5-10 mm²) solid or stranded copper. Screw terminals throughout — no spring-cage on this variant, so factor in torque-driver time if your shop is all push-in.
