ATEX-certified soft starter for Zone-classified motor circuits
The 3RW5514-3HA04 carries ATEX and IECEx certification, so it can be installed directly in the motor supply circuit of a Zone 1 or Zone 2 hazardous area without an external isolation barrier — the soft starter itself is the Ex interface. Rated 200-480 V, it covers the common low-voltage motor voltages across 50/60 Hz regions — 230 V, 400 V, 480 V — without a transformer tap change. Trip Class is selectable between CLASS 10A, 10E (default), 20E, and 30E per IEC 60947-4-2, which lets you match the overload protection curve to the motor thermal time constant — 10A for standard motors, 20E/30E for high-inertia loads that need a longer acceleration window.
Fieldbus integration and diagnostics
Built-in PROFIBUS, Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP, and EtherNet/IP mean this soft starter talks directly to the PLC without an external gateway — the integrator picks whichever fieldbus the control architecture already runs. PROFIenergy support (via PROFINET communication modules) allows the drive to participate in coordinated energy-saving pauses during production breaks — the soft starter drops motor power on a network command, not a local timer. Onboard event list, error logbook, and trace function store the last faults and parameter changes — useful for troubleshooting a nuisance trip without connecting a laptop.
Soft-start features for pump and conveyor duty
Voltage ramp, pump ramp down, torque control, and breakaway pulse are all available — the breakaway pulse delivers a short torque spike to break a stuck pump impeller free, then ramps normally. DC braking and combined braking provide rapid motor stop without a separate brake contactor — the DC injection holds the rotor stationary after the AC supply is removed. Auto-reset and remote reset allow unattended restart after a cleared fault — the plant can restart the conveyor from the control room without sending a tech to the MCC.
Panel layout and clearance requirements
The unit measures 170 mm wide, 275 mm high, and 152 mm deep — it fits a standard 600 mm wide MCC bucket with room for the main disconnect and control transformer on the same subpanel. Required clearances: 100 mm above, 10 mm front, 0 mm rear, 75 mm below, and 5 mm at the sides — the zero rear clearance means it can sit flush against the back panel, saving depth in a shallow enclosure. Solid conductor terminals accept 2x 1.0-2.5 mm² and 2x 2.5-10 mm² — the dual entry per phase simplifies daisy-chaining the line and load conductors without a separate terminal block.
UL, CSA, and CE markings cover North American and European installations — no additional agency approval needed for most industrial sites.
