ATEX and IECEx certification for hazardous areas
The 3RW5515-3HA05: Both ATEX and IECEx certified — this soft starter is listed for installation in explosive atmospheres where gas or dust ignition hazards exist. The certification covers the enclosure and internal circuitry, so it can be mounted directly in Zone 2 or Zone 22 without an additional purge or isolation barrier.
Voltage range and trip class selection
Rated 200-600 V — covers 208 V, 230 V, 400 V, 480 V, and 575 V nominal networks without a voltage tap change. The Trip Class is selectable: 10A for standard starting, 10E for extended ramp, 20E for high-inertia loads, or 30E for very heavy starts like crushers and centrifuges. Default is 10A/10E per IEC 60947-4-2. Service factor 1.15 means the soft starter can deliver 15 % above its rated current continuously — useful when the motor nameplate service factor is 1.15 and the application occasionally pushes past full load.
Fieldbus and analog feedback
PROFIBUS and Modbus TCP are built in — no separate communication module needed for these two common fieldbuses. The analog output is configurable as 4-20 mA or 0-10 V, typically mapped to motor current, so the PLC or SCADA gets a real-time load signal without an external current transformer. PROFIenergy support means the soft starter can participate in energy management profiles when connected via PROFINET — it can pause the motor during idle periods and resume on command, reducing standby losses.
Panel layout and clearance dimensions
Dimensions are 275 mm high, 170 mm wide, 152 mm deep. Clearance requirements: 100 mm above, 10 mm front, 0 mm back (can mount flush to the back panel), 75 mm below, and 5 mm at the sides. The tight side clearance means multiple units can be ganged side-by-side in a row without excessive spacing.
Starting profiles and braking
Voltage ramp, pump ramp down, torque control, and breakaway pulse are all available — the breakaway pulse is useful for high static-friction loads like conveyors that need a momentary torque spike to break free before ramping. DC braking and combined braking provide rapid stop without an external braking contactor.
Diagnostics and firmware
Event list, error logbook, and trace function are built in — the trace captures motor current, voltage, and status at configurable trigger points, which helps diagnose starting faults without an external data logger. Firmware is field-updateable, so new features or bug fixes can be applied without swapping the unit. Accuracy Class 5 per IEC 61557-12 means the current measurement is within 5 % of reading — adequate for motor protection and trending but not for revenue-grade metering.
Approvals and wiring
UL, CSA, and CE marked — accepted in North American and European installations without additional agency review. The solid-wire terminals accept 2x 1.0-2.5 mm² and 2x 2.5-10 mm², covering both control wiring and power conductors in a single terminal block.
