Hazardous-area motor starting with ATEX certification
The 3RW5525-3HF04: This soft starter carries both ATEX and IECEx certification, meaning it can be installed in Zone 2 or Zone 22 hazardous areas without an additional isolation barrier — the starter itself is the certified interface between the fieldbus controller and the motor in explosive atmospheres. The safe-state output is configured as an open load circuit, which in a fail-safe scenario physically disconnects the motor from the supply — this is the expected behavior for a SIL-rated safety function in a gas or dust environment.
Trip class flexibility for pump and conveyor loads
With a service factor of 1.15, the starter can sustain 115% of its rated current continuously without tripping — a practical margin for pumps operating near their BEP where the motor draws slightly above FLA during normal process swings.
Multi-protocol fieldbus and analog feedback
The starter supports Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP, EtherNet/IP, and PROFIBUS on the same hardware — no protocol-specific module swap needed at commissioning. The analog output can be set to 4-20 mA or 0-10 V for feeding motor current or torque to a PLC analog input. A firmware update function is built in, so protocol updates or bug fixes can be applied in the field without replacing the unit — useful when the line control system gets a protocol revision mid-lifecycle.
Torque control and pump ramp down for fluid handling
Torque control and pump ramp down are integrated features — torque control gives a linear acceleration profile for conveyor belts or extruder screws, while the pump ramp down reduces the deceleration rate to prevent water hammer in long discharge lines. The breakaway pulse delivers a short torque spike at start to break a stuck pump impeller or a conveyor belt that has settled under load — this avoids the need for a separate jog circuit.
Panel integration and clearance dimensions
The starter measures 185 mm wide, 306 mm high, and 203 mm deep — fits a standard 600 mm wide enclosure with room for side-mounted overload relays. Clearance requirements: 100 mm above, 75 mm below, 10 mm in front, 5 mm at the sides, 0 mm behind.
