The Siemens 3RW5547-2HA04 soft starter carries both ATEX and IECEx certification, making it suitable for Zone 1/Zone 2 gas and dust atmospheres per IEC 60079. This is not a general-purpose soft starter — confirm the Ex marking matches your area classification before specifying. Rated operating voltage spans 200 to 480 V AC, covering common global industrial supply voltages. The unit is CE, UL, and CSA approved, easing panel acceptance in North American and European installations.
Trip Class and Motor Protection
Trip class is configurable: CLASS 10A / 10E (default), 20E, or 30E per IEC 60947-4-2. CLASS 10A is the standard for standard induction motors; CLASS 20E or 30E suits high-inertia loads like centrifuges or crushers where longer acceleration times are needed. The service factor of 1.15 allows continuous overload margin above nameplate rating. Accuracy Class 5 per IEC 61557-12 means the current measurement error stays within ±5 % of reading — adequate for motor protection but not precision metering.
Fieldbus and Communication
Built-in support for Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP, PROFIBUS, and EtherNet/IP eliminates the need for external gateway modules in most architectures. PROFIenergy is available when paired with PROFINET High-Feature communication modules, allowing energy-efficient shutdown of loads during idle periods. Analog output configurable as 4-20 mA (default) or 0-10 V, usable for retransmitting motor current or load status to a PLC analog input.
Mounting and Environmental
Clearance required: 100 mm above, 75 mm below, 10 mm forward, 5 mm at the side, 0 mm backward — plan your enclosure depth accordingly. If the panel ambient exceeds 40 °C, expect to reduce the rated current or provide forced ventilation.
