Trip class and motor protection flexibility
The 3RW5554-2HA06: The trip class is configurable to CLASS 10A, 10E (default), 20E, or 30E per IEC 60947-4-2. Class 10A/10E provides fast overload protection for standard-start motors, while Class 20E or 30E allows longer acceleration times for high-inertia loads like centrifuges or crushers. The default 10E setting suits most general-purpose motor starts, but the field-selectable range means one part covers both light and heavy starting duty without a hardware change.
Fieldbus and control integration
This soft starter supports Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP, EtherNet/IP, and PROFIBUS natively, with PROFIenergy available when paired with a PROFINET communication module. The analog output is configurable as 4-20 mA (default) or 0-10 V, feeding motor current or torque data to a PLC or SCADA. Torque control, voltage ramp, pump ramp down, and a breakaway pulse are built in — useful for soft-starting conveyors or pumps where mechanical shock must be minimized. DC braking is included for rapid stopping of high-inertia loads.
Mounting and environmental considerations
The unit measures 478 mm wide, 764 mm high, and 241 mm deep. Clearance requirements: 100 mm upward, 75 mm downward, 10 mm forward, 0 mm backward, and 5 mm at the sides. The enclosure is designed for panel mounting — plan for adequate ventilation or forced cooling if the panel ambient exceeds 40 °C. Service factor is 1.15, allowing 15% continuous overload above rated motor current without tripping.
Diagnostics and maintainability
The soft starter includes an event list, error logbook, and trace function for fault analysis. Firmware updates are supported, and the unit is parameterizable with up to 4 parameter sets. Auto-reset and remote reset are available for unattended restart after a fault — useful for remote pumping stations or conveyor lines where manual reset is impractical. Accuracy class is 5 per IEC 61557-12, meaning measurement deviation stays within ±5% for current and voltage monitoring.
CE, UL, and CSA approvals are in place alongside ATEX and IECEx. The ATEX and IECEx marks confirm suitability for Zone 1/21 or Zone 2/22 hazardous areas, depending on the specific installation certificate. The unit also carries a motor heating function for anti-condensation protection during idle periods. Combined braking (DC injection + ramp) is available for faster, controlled stops.
