The Siemens SIRIUS 3SF1234-1KC05-1BA1 is a mechanical safety switch built for guard-door and hazard-zone interlocking — the kind of part that stops a conveyor or press when a guard opens. It carries two safety-related NC contacts with positive opening, so when the actuator is forced out, those contacts are mechanically driven open — no spring reliance, no weld-stick failure. That's the feature that makes it suitable for safety circuits up to PL d / SIL 2 territory, per the design. The 24 V LED gives a quick visual on the line: lit means the switch is made, dark means the guard is open or the AS-Interface bus is down. IP65 sealing means it handles washdown splashes and dust on a packaging line or a conveyor transfer point — out here in the grease, that's what keeps a switch from dying from a hose-down.
Mounting and wiring — what fits where
The housing is a narrow plastic block, 31 mm wide, fixed by screw fixing in any mounting position. That narrow profile means it tucks into tight spots on machine frames where a wider switch won't fit. Connection is a fixed 4-pin M12 plug — pin 1 is ASI+, pin 3 is ASI-. The AS-Interface slave profile is 0.B.F, so it talks safety over the ASIsafe bus. No rewiring for a different connector; the M12 is the standard for field-mount safety devices. The cable comes pre-wired to the plug — just screw it onto the machine frame, plug in the M12 drop, and address it on the bus.
