Communication-capable position switch for AS-i networks
The Siemens 3SF3100-1CV00-0BA2 is a communication-capable position switch that integrates directly into an AS-Interface (AS-i) network via its insulation displacement connection, eliminating the need for a separate I/O module at the switch point. It carries a single normally-closed (NC) contact with positive-opening action per IEC 60947-5-1, meaning the NC contact is mechanically forced open when the actuator is depressed — a safety requirement for guarding applications where a welded contact must not mask a hazard condition. The rounded plunger actuator has a 10 mm diameter and is designed for overtravel, so it tolerates some mechanical overrun after the switching point without damage.
Metal housing, IP65, EN 50041 block form factor
The housing is a painted metal block design per EN 50041, which is a standard 56 mm wide footprint common across European limit switch installations. IP65 protection means the switch is dust-tight and protected against water jets from any direction — suitable for washdown areas in food processing, packaging lines, or machine-tool coolant splash zones. Screw fixing to the machine frame or bracket is the intended mounting method; no DIN-rail clip is provided.
The single NC contact (no NO contacts) and positive-opening function define the safety integrity of this switch. In a safety circuit, the NC contact is wired into the safety relay or PLC safety input; when the plunger is depressed, the contact opens mechanically, even if the contact tips have welded — that is what positive opening guarantees. The AS-i connection uses the insulation displacement method, so the switch connects directly to a yellow AS-i flat cable without additional terminals or a separate bus node. The 10 mm rounded plunger is a standard finger-safe actuator; it suits cam-actuated positions where the cam profile has a gradual rise rather than a sharp edge.
