The Siemens 3SF3120-6XX00-0BA1 is a communication-capable position switch built for AS-i (Actuator-Sensor Interface) networks. It uses a mechanical active principle with a separate actuator and positive opening operation — meaning the NC contacts are mechanically forced open when the actuator is displaced, regardless of contact welding. That positive opening function makes it suitable for safety-related position detection in machine guarding and interlock circuits where a fail-safe signal is required. Screw fixing mounts it directly to machine frames or brackets. The switch carries 2 NC auxiliary contacts and no NO contacts — a pure normally-closed safety pair.
AS-i connection and wiring reality
Connection to the AS-i bus is via insulation displacement method — no screw terminals on the switch itself. The AS-i flat cable is pressed into the displacement contacts, which pierces the insulation to make contact with the conductors. This is a clean, vibration-resistant connection common on AS-i nodes, but it means the switch is dedicated to that bus protocol and cannot be rewired for conventional discrete I/O. The switch is supplied without an actuating element (separate actuator listed), so the mating cam or plunger must be sourced separately based on the application geometry.
