What this switch is and what it does
The Siemens 3SF3200-6XX03-0BA1 is a communication-capable position switch with an integrated AS-i (Actuator-Sensor Interface) adapter, designed for direct connection to an AS-i network without a separate I/O module. It provides two normally-closed (NC) contacts with positive opening operation per IEC 60947-5-1, meaning the contacts are mechanically forced open when the actuator is displaced — a mandatory safety feature for interlock circuits where a welded contact must not go undetected. The housing is a molded-plastic block design to EN 50047, fastened with screws, and rated IP65 for use in washdown or dusty industrial environments.
AS-i integration and signal integrity
Connection to the AS-i bus uses the insulation displacement method — no screw terminals on the sensor side, which saves wiring time but means the cable must be the correct round-profile AS-i flat cable or a compatible round cable that the displacement contacts can pierce cleanly. The switch reports its status over the AS-i network, so the control system sees the contact state without running individual wires back to a digital input card. On a noisy line with VFDs nearby, the AS-i bus is the weak link — check the shield continuity at the gateway end first if you see intermittent position faults.
Sourcing and lifecycle reality
The 3SF3200-6XX03-0BA1 is specified without an actuating element (separate actuator required, ordered separately), so verify you have the correct actuator head or plunger for your application before committing the BOM line.
