The Siemens 3SF3210-0DV00-0BA2 is a communication-capable position switch with an integrated AS-i adapter, built for direct connection to an AS-interface network without a separate I/O module. The mechanical active principle with positive opening means the NC contact is forced open by the actuator — it does not rely on spring return, so a welded or stuck contact cannot mask a closed signal. That is the safety-relevant feature: positive opening is required for interlock circuits guarding access to hazardous motion per IEC 60947-5-1. The roller plunger actuator suits linear cam tracks or sliding doors where the cam rolls over the plunger rather than striking it.
IP65 and the enclosure
Rated IP65, the molded-plastic block housing is dust-tight and protected against water jets — suitable for washdown areas in food, beverage, or general wet manufacturing environments. The housing conforms to EN 50047, a standard 50 mm wide block form factor that mounts directly with screw fixing onto machine frames or profile rails. AS-i connection and contact configuration
Connection to the AS-i bus is via insulation displacement method — a piercing contact that terminates the yellow AS-i flat cable without stripping. The switch carries one NC contact and no NO contacts, so it is a single-channel safety input: one normally-closed positive-opening path into the AS-i safety monitor. Operating temperature range of -25 to +60 °C covers most indoor industrial environments but check for hot spots near ovens or foundry lines.
