What it is and what it does
The Siemens 3SF3243-0XX00-0BA1 is a communication-capable position switch with an integrated AS-i adapter, designed to report two normally-closed (NC) contacts directly onto an AS-i bus without a separate I/O block. The switching function is positive opening, meaning the NC contacts are mechanically forced open when the actuator is displaced — a requirement for safety circuits where a welded contact must not mask a stop signal. The housing is a molded-plastic block per EN 50047, fastened by screw fixing.
Where it fits
The AS-i insulation displacement connection means the switch pierces the AS-i flat cable directly — no separate tapping or screw terminals for the bus. That saves a junction point in the cable run and keeps the IP65 seal intact. The separate actuator allows the switch body to be mounted on a fixed frame while the actuator rides on the guard door or sliding gate, which is the typical layout on a machine guard interlock. Operating temperature range -25 to +60 °C covers most indoor industrial environments, including unheated warehouses.
