What it is and what it monitors
The Siemens 3UG5642-2CW31 is a digital monitoring relay that tracks current, active current, voltage, power factor, and power on a single device. It handles supply voltages from 24 to 240 V AC/DC at 50/60 Hz and measures up to 690 V AC/DC and 15 A directly — no external CT needed for the current path. The two changeover contacts (spring-loaded terminals) give you isolated alarm or trip outputs, and the adjustable ON-delay and tripping delay (0.1 to 999.9 s) let you filter out nuisance transients on motor start or load switching.
Where it fits in the panel
This relay belongs to the SIRIUS 3UG5 family of current, active current, voltage, power factor, and power monitoring devices. It's sized for a standard DIN-rail mount — the 127 x 111 x 38 mm footprint fits alongside contactors and overloads in a motor control center. Spring-loaded terminals accept 0.2–2.5 mm² solid or ferruled stranded wire; strip length of 8 mm avoids whiskers under the cage. The SIL 1/PL c functional safety rating means it can be used in safety-related monitoring circuits up to that level, but verify the application's required safety integrity independently.
