What this MCCB is and what it protects
The Siemens 3VA1010-3ED36-0JC0 is a SENTRON molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) in the line protection version, rated for a continuous current Iu of 100 A across three poles. It carries a TM210 thermal-magnetic overcurrent release — the thermal element handles overloads, the magnetic element clears short-circuits — and is built for distribution panels protecting feeders, main switchboards, and downstream branch circuits. Breaking capacity is voltage-dependent: 75.6 kA at 240 V, 52.5 kA at 415 V, 32 kA at 440 V, and 7.5 kA at 690 V. At 415 V — the common European three-phase distribution voltage — the 52.5 kA figure gives substantial fault-current headroom for most industrial service-entrance and sub-distribution applications.
Thermal derating and real-world loading
Rated continuous current holds at 100 A from 40 °C through 50 °C ambient. Above that it derates: 96 A at 55 °C, 94 A at 60 °C, 92 A at 65 °C, and 90 A at 70 °C. If the panel ambient runs hot — say a sealed enclosure near a furnace line or in a tropical climate — the 90 A floor at 70 °C still leaves a usable margin for a 75 A continuous load. The rated insulation voltage Ui is 800 V, adequate for 690 V systems with standard clearance.
Auxiliaries and integrated trip options
This MCCB ships with two HQ auxiliary switches (form C) for status feedback — open/closed indication to a PLC or remote annunciator. It also includes a shunt trip release (STL) for remote tripping via a control signal. The integrated auxiliary trip is order code 3VA9688-0BL32. There is no undervoltage release, no ground-fault monitoring, and no communication module on this variant — it is a straightforward thermal-magnetic breaker with remote-trip capability.
Panel fit and environmental limits
Dimensions: 76.2 mm wide (roughly 3 inches — three 1-inch pole spaces), 130 mm tall, 70 mm deep. The 70 mm depth is shallow enough to clear most standard 200 mm deep enclosures with room for wiring gutters. Protection class on the front is IP40 — protected against tools and wires >1 mm, but not sealed against moisture; install in a dry indoor panel or add a cover. Operating temperature range is -25 °C to 70 °C; storage range is -40 °C to 80 °C.
