Product Overview
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA1010-3ED42-0AD0 is a 4-pole molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) rated for a continuous current Iu of 100 A through 40 °C to 50 °C, with a TM210 thermal-magnetic overcurrent release. It carries a breaking capacity of 75.6 kA at 240 V, 52.5 kA at 415 V, 32 kA at 440 V, and 7.5 kA at 690 V. The TM210 release combines a fixed thermal element for overload protection with a magnetic element for short-circuit response. This variant is configured as a line-protection device, so the trip curve is calibrated for cable and busbar protection rather than motor starting inrush. Three auxiliary switches (HQ type) are factory-fitted, providing remote status indication without additional wiring into the breaker mechanism.
Temperature Derating & Thermal Management
Continuous current rating holds at 100 A from 40 °C up to 50 °C ambient. Above that the breaker derates: 96 A at 55 °C, 94 A at 60 °C, 92 A at 65 °C, and 90 A at 70 °C. For a panel running at 65 °C ambient — common in a sealed, solar-loaded enclosure — the usable capacity drops to 92 A, so a 100 A load would nuisance-trip on overload. The operating temperature range is -25 °C to 70 °C; storage range is -40 °C to 80 °C. The storage limit governs shipping and warehousing, not running conditions.
Selectivity & Coordination
With a rated insulation voltage Ui of 800 V and the listed breaking capacities up to 75.6 kA at 240 V, this MCCB is sized for a main or feeder position in a 400 V distribution board where the prospective fault current sits around 50 kA. The 52.5 kA at 415 V gives headroom for a 50 kA SCCR panel without cascading upstream. No undervoltage release, no shunt trip, and no communication module are fitted on this variant. If remote tripping or energy monitoring is needed, that requires a different order code within the 3VA family.
Panel Integration
Dimensions are 130 mm height, 101.6 mm width, 70 mm depth. The 4-pole width fits a standard 100 mm DIN-rail cutout or a 4-module MCCB mounting base. The IP40 front protection means it is suitable for a clean indoor panel; not rated for washdown or outdoor exposure without an additional enclosure. The auxiliary switches HQ are wired via the front terminals; verify the switching capacity matches the PLC input card's sink current before commissioning.
