MCCB for 100 A feeder and branch protection
The Siemens 3VA1010-4ED42-0JA0 is a 4-pole SENTRON molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) rated for 100 A continuous current, built for line protection in distribution panels and motor control centers. Its TM210 thermal-magnetic release provides fixed overload and short-circuit protection without the need for external relays — a straightforward fit for 100 A feeder circuits, busway taps, or large motor branch circuits where adjustable electronic trip is not required. Breaking capacity is 121 kA at 240 V AC, 75.6 kA at 415 V, 52.5 kA at 440 V, and 11.9 kA at 690 V — high enough for most low-voltage distribution systems with high fault current potential. The 800 V rated insulation voltage (Ui) confirms suitability for 690 V line-to-line systems.
Thermal derating and ambient limits
The 100 A rating holds flat from 40 °C to 50 °C, then derates to 96 A at 55 °C, 94 A at 60 °C, 92 A at 65 °C, and 90 A at 70 °C. In a warm enclosure — say a non-ventilated panel near a furnace line or in a Middle East substation — that 90 A ceiling at 70 °C means the breaker is effectively a 90 A device if the ambient hits that limit. Operating range is -25 °C to +70 °C; storage from -40 °C to +80 °C.
Integrated shunt trip and auxiliary options
This unit ships with a factory-fitted shunt trip (STL) release (order code 3VA9688-0BL32 for the release itself), allowing remote tripping via a control signal — useful for emergency-stop circuits or interlocking with upstream protection. There is no undervoltage release, no auxiliary contact block, and no ground-fault monitoring module on this variant; those are added externally if needed. The IP40 front protection suits panel-mount indoor use; not rated for washdown or outdoor exposure.
