Siemens 3VA1020-2ED36-0JA0 — 20 A SENTRON MCCB with shunt trip
The Siemens 3VA1020-2ED36-0JA0 is a 3-pole SENTRON molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) rated 20 A at 40 °C, fitted with a TM210 thermal-magnetic overcurrent release and a factory-integrated shunt trip (STL) for remote opening. It is designed for line protection in commercial and industrial distribution panels. Breaking capacity reaches 52.5 kA at 240 V AC, 32 kA at 415 V, and 13.6 kA at 440 V — enough headroom for most secondary distribution boards fed by a transformer of moderate impedance. At 690 V it still interrupts 7.5 kA. The TM210 release is a fixed thermal-magnetic type — no interchangeable rating plugs. That means the 20 A frame is the breaker's identity; if the load grows past 20 A, the whole MCCB gets swapped, not just a trip unit.
Selectivity and coordination
With a 52.5 kA interrupting rating at 240 V and a 20 A continuous frame, this MCCB coordinates well downstream of a larger SENTRON 3VA molded-case or an 3WL air breaker. The TM210's fixed thermal curve means no field-adjustable long-time pickup — selectivity with upstream feeders relies on the manufacturer's published let-through curves, not a dial. The shunt trip (STL) allows a remote trip signal from a safety relay, PLC, or E-stop button — useful for emergency-off circuits or undervoltage protection schemes where a separate undervoltage release is not fitted.
Panel fit and mounting
The breaker is 76.2 mm wide, 130 mm tall, and 70 mm deep. Mounts via rear screw terminals or optional DIN-rail adapter. Rated insulation voltage is 800 V, and maximum power dissipation is 12 W — within the typical thermal budget of a steel enclosure with natural convection, but worth checking if the panel is densely packed.
