What it is and what it does
The Siemens 3VA1020-2ED42-0AA0 is a SENTRON molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) rated for line protection, with a continuous current of 20 A and a 4-pole configuration. The TM210 overcurrent release combines thermal-magnetic protection — thermal for overload, magnetic for short-circuit — sized for distribution panels and feeder circuits. Breaking capacity varies with system voltage: 52.5 kA at 240 V, 32 kA at 415 V, 13.6 kA at 440 V, and 7.5 kA at both 500 V and 690 V. That spread covers most low-voltage industrial and commercial networks; the 240 V figure is high enough for main distribution in North American panels. Rated current holds at 20 A from 40 °C through 55 °C, then derates to 19 A at 60–70 °C. No trip indicator, no undervoltage release, no ground-fault monitoring — this is a straight thermal-magnetic breaker for basic overcurrent protection.
Panel fit and dimensions
The 3VA1020-2ED42-0AA0 measures 130 mm high, 101.6 mm wide, and 70 mm deep — a standard MCCB footprint that mounts directly onto DIN rail or panel-mount adapters in the SENTRON family. The 4-pole width (101.6 mm) is the same as the 3-pole plus one neutral pole in the same frame; if your existing panel was built for a 3VA1020-3ED36-0AA0 (3-pole), the 4-pole version is wider and will not drop in without busbar or wiring changes. Operating temperature range is -25 °C to 70 °C; storage from -40 °C to 80 °C. Maximum power loss is 12 W, which matters for thermal budgeting in a sealed enclosure.
