SENTRON 3VA1020-4ED32-0HA0 — 20 A MCCB with Shunt Trip, Line Protection
The Siemens 3VA1020-4ED32-0HA0 is a SENTRON molded case circuit breaker designed for line protection in distribution panels and industrial switchboards. It carries a 20 A continuous rating at 40 °C across all three poles, with no derating needed up to 55 °C — only a 1 A drop at 60 °C and above. The 121 kA breaking capacity at 240 V AC gives substantial fault-clearing headroom for high-available-fault-current service entrances or sub-distribution boards. This 3-pole MCCB uses a TM210 thermal-magnetic overcurrent release — the thermal element handles overload protection, the magnetic element covers short-circuit. It also includes a shunt trip (STL) auxiliary release for remote tripping via a control signal, useful in emergency-stop or supervisory shutdown circuits. The insulation voltage is rated 800 V, so it can be applied in 480/277 V or 600 V systems without exceeding the dielectric withstand.
Breaking Capacity Across Voltages — Selectivity Planning
The interrupting rating drops as system voltage rises: 75.6 kA at 415 V, 52.5 kA at 440 V, and 11.9 kA at both 500 V and 690 V. For a 480 V panel, the 52.5 kA figure at 440 V is the closest reference — still well above typical 480 V SCCR requirements for most commercial and light industrial installations. At 690 V the 11.9 kA limit means this breaker is not suited for high-fault 690 V motor control centers without upstream current-limiting fuses or a higher-rated MCCB.
Physical Fit and Panel Integration
The 3VA1020-4ED32-0HA0 measures 130 mm high, 76.2 mm wide, and 70 mm deep — a compact 3-pole footprint that fits standard SENTRON 3VA mounting bases and busbar systems. Maximum power loss is 12 W, so ventilation in a sealed enclosure is advisable if multiple breakers are ganged. Operating temperature range is -25 °C to 70 °C; storage range is -40 °C to 80 °C.
