Siemens SENTRON 3VA1040-3ED36-0DA0 is a 3-pole molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) rated 40 A continuous at 40 °C, with a TM210 thermal-magnetic release. It's built for line protection — main feeder or large branch circuit — in commercial and industrial panels. The interrupting capacity hits 75.6 kA at 240 V AC, tapering to 7.5 kA at 690 V, so it handles high available fault current at common distribution voltages without cascading upstream. This unit ships with an undervoltage release (UVR) factory-fitted. That means the breaker trips if the control voltage drops below a set threshold — useful for emergency-stop circuits or to prevent automatic restart after a power loss. No separate auxiliary release to buy and install.
Sizing and derating
The 40 A rating holds from 40 °C up to 50 °C. Above that it derates: 38.4 A at 55 °C, 37.6 A at 60 °C, stepping down to 36 A at 70 °C. If your panel runs hot — say near a drive cabinet or in a non-climate-controlled enclosure — factor that drop into your load calculation. Rated insulation voltage is 800 V, so it's comfortable on 480/277 V and 600 V systems. The TM210 release is a fixed thermal-magnetic — no interchangeable trip units, but reliable and simple for a standard feeder.
Mounting and fit
Dimensions: 76.2 mm wide, 130 mm tall, 70 mm deep. That's a standard 3-pole MCCB footprint — mounts on a DIN rail or panel-mount base. The 70 mm depth is shallow enough for most 200 mm deep enclosures; leaves room for wiring gutters and other gear.
