Breaking capacity and thermal derating — the real fit numbers
The 3VA1040-4ED32-0JA0: At 40 A the breaker holds its full rating up to 50 °C ambient. Above that it derates: 38.4 A at 55 °C, 37.6 A at 60 °C, 36.8 A at 65 °C, and 36 A at 70 °C. If your panel internal temperature runs above 50 °C, the continuous load must be trimmed accordingly — the 40 A label applies only below that threshold. The shunt trip release (design STL) is integrated as 3VA9688-0BL32. No auxiliary contacts, no undervoltage release, no ground-fault module on this variant. If your circuit requires those, this is not the order code.
Footprint and panel fit
Mounts on a standard DIN rail. Width 76.2 mm (roughly 3 module spaces), depth 70 mm, height 130 mm. The front face carries IP40 protection — fine inside a closed panel, not for washdown zones. No auxiliary contact block shipped with this code; if you need one, it must be ordered separately and installed in the field.
