What it is and what it does
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA1050-2ED46-0AA0 is a 4-pole molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) rated for 50 A continuous current, designed for line protection in industrial distribution panels. It carries a TM210 thermal-magnetic trip unit — the thermal element handles overloads, the magnetic element clears short circuits fast. Breaking capacity is 52.5 kA at 240 V, 32 kA at 415 V, 13.6 kA at 440 V, and 7.5 kA at both 500 V and 690 V. That means it can safely interrupt fault currents up to those levels without welding contacts or rupturing the case — critical for coordinating with upstream gear.
Deployment and integration
Ambient temperature derating is mild: full 50 A up to 50 °C, then 49 A at 55 °C, 48 A at 60 °C, 46 A at 65 °C, and 45 A at 70 °C. In a hot panel near the top of a cabinet, you lose about 10 % capacity — plan your load accordingly.
Lifecycle and sourcing
Rated insulation voltage is 800 V, and the maximum power loss at rated current is 14.6 W — useful for thermal calculations in a sealed enclosure. Storage temperature range is -40 °C to 80 °C; operating range is -25 °C to 70 °C.
