What it is and what it does in the panel
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA1050-3ED32-0HA0 is a 3-pole molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) rated for 50 A continuous current (Iu) and built for line protection duty — the standard job of protecting cables and busbars from overloads and short circuits in a distribution panel. It carries a TM210 thermal-magnetic overcurrent release, so the thermal element handles the overload curve while the magnetic element clears fast faults. A shunt trip (STL) is built in, letting a remote signal or emergency-stop circuit trip the breaker without a human pulling the handle. Rated insulation voltage is 800 V (Ui), meaning the breaker's internal creepage and clearance are designed for 800 V-class systems. The front face carries IP40 protection — solid objects over 1 mm are blocked, but it's not sealed against water. Inside a locked enclosure that's fine; out in a washdown zone you'd want an IP65-rated cover over it.
Breaking capacity — what it can interrupt at your system voltage
This MCCB's interrupting rating depends on the system voltage you're feeding it. At 240 V it clears 75.6 kA; at 415 V it handles 52.5 kA; at 440 V it's rated for 32 kA; and at 690 V it still interrupts 7.5 kA. Those numbers tell you the maximum fault current the breaker can safely extinguish without welding its contacts or rupturing the case. If your available fault current at the panel exceeds any of these figures at your operating voltage, you need a higher-rated breaker upstream or a current-limiting fuse ahead of it.
Thermal derating — how hot can the panel get before you lose ampacity
The breaker is rated 50 A continuous from 40 °C up to 50 °C ambient. At 55 °C it derates to 48 A, at 60 °C to 47 A, at 65 °C to 46 A, and at 70 °C to 45 A. If your panel runs hot — say next to a furnace line or inside a sealed NEMA 12 enclosure in a non-conditioned plant space — you need to account for that derating when sizing the breaker to the load. The operating temperature range is -25 °C to +70 °C, and storage range is -40 °C to +80 °C.
Physical fit and mounting
The breaker measures 130 mm high, 76.2 mm wide (that's three standard 25.4 mm module widths), and 70 mm deep. It mounts onto a DIN rail or bolts into a panel — the 76.2 mm width is the standard 3-pole MCCB footprint, so it drops into the same cutout as other SENTRON 3VA breakers. No auxiliary contacts are fitted from the factory; if you need status feedback to a PLC or alarm light, you'd add the 3VA9688-0BL30 auxiliary trip block.
