What it is and what it does
The Siemens 3VA1063-2ED36-0HH0 is a SENTRON molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) built for line protection — meaning it sits upstream protecting a feeder or distribution bus, not a specific motor or device. Rated 63 A continuous at 40 °C, it holds that rating steady through 50 °C before it starts a gentle derate: 62 A at 55 °C, 61 A at 60 °C, 60 A at 65 °C, 58 A at 70 °C (–). That thermal curve matters if the breaker lives in a hot panel — you lose only 5 A from 40 °C to 70 °C, which is tighter than many older frames. Breaking capacity is where this thing earns its keep: 52.5 kA at 240 V, 32 kA at 415 V, 13.6 kA at 440 V, and 7.5 kA at both 500 V and 690 V. That 52.5 kA at 240 V means it can interrupt a fault current that high without welding contacts or blowing apart — critical for high-available-fault panels like switchgear downstream of a large transformer. The 800 V rated insulation voltage gives headroom for 480/277 V or 600 V systems.
What's built in — auxiliary switches and shunt trip
This variant ships with a shunt trip release (STL) and an auxiliary switch block: 2 auxiliary switches plus 1 trip alarm switch HQ. The shunt trip lets a remote signal — from an E-stop, a safety relay, or a PLC — force the breaker open. The trip alarm switch changes state only when the breaker trips on fault, not on manual open, so a control system can tell the difference between a planned shutdown and a fault event. No undervoltage release on this unit, so if you need UVR for machine safety, this isn't the variant.
Lifecycle and sourcing reality
Lifecycle status is current — Siemens still builds this variant, so it's not a scavenger-hunt part. No EOL notice, no last-time-buy clock. That means you can spec it into a new panel design without worrying about a forced redesign next year. For volume or project pricing, send the RFQ with the order code and target quantity; availability and current pricing get confirmed at quote time through independent distribution channels.
Panel fit — dimensions and mounting
Three-pole frame with a 76.2 mm width, 130 mm height, and 70 mm depth. That 70 mm depth is the dimension that matters when you're laying out a shallow enclosure — it's the projection from the mounting surface to the front of the breaker. The width, 76.2 mm (3 inches), is standard for a 3-pole MCCB in this class; it'll drop into the same footprint as other SENTRON 3VA frames. No communication module on this variant — it's a plain breaker, no fieldbus integration.
