Circuit breaker 3VA1, 63 A, 25 kA — what the ratings mean for the panel
The Siemens 3VA1063-3ED42-0DH0 is a 4-pole IEC frame 100 molded-case circuit breaker rated 63 A continuous (Ir fixed at 63 A) with a TM210 thermal-magnetic trip unit — the thermal element handles overloads, the magnetic element (fixed at 10 x In, so 630 A) clears short-circuits. Breaking capacity class N means it can interrupt 25 kA at 415 V AC, which covers most industrial distribution panels fed from a 500 kVA or smaller transformer; above that you'd step to class S or H for higher SCCR. The undervoltage release (UVR) set for 208–230 V AC 50/60 Hz drops the breaker on loss of control voltage — common in safety circuits or remote shunt-trip applications. Two HQ auxiliary switches and one HQ trip alarm switch provide status feedback to a PLC or annunciator panel.
Deployment context — panel integration
The 3VA1 frame mounts on a DIN rail or panel-mount adapter inside a standard IP54 or higher enclosure. The nut keeper kit (included) secures the breaker to the mounting plate without loose hardware — a time-saver during panel assembly. The UVR coil draws power from the control circuit (208–230 V AC); verify the control transformer is sized to handle the inrush. Auxiliary and alarm switches are pre-wired to terminal blocks on the breaker face, simplifying the wiring to the PLC input card.
