63 A MCCB with shunt trip — what the ratings mean for fit
The Siemens 3VA1063-3ED42-0KA0 is a SENTRON molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) for line protection, rated 63 A continuous at 40 °C without derating — the same 63 A holds through 50 °C, then drops to 62 A at 55 °C and 58 A at 70 °C, so you can run it near full rating in a warm panel as long as ambient stays under 50 °C. Breaking capacity hits 75.6 kA at 240 V, 52.5 kA at 415 V, and 32 kA at 440 V — that covers most low-voltage distribution fault levels in North America and Europe without needing a current-limiting upstream device. The TM210 thermal-magnetic release handles overload and short-circuit protection; the integrated shunt trip (STL) allows remote tripping from a PLC or emergency-stop circuit, which saves an external trip module and the wiring to it. Rated insulation voltage is 800 V, and the 4-pole configuration handles three-phase plus neutral switching.
Panel integration and compliance
At 70 mm deep, 101.6 mm wide, and 130 mm tall, the 3VA1063-3ED42-0KA0 fits standard MCCB panel cutouts and DIN-rail adapters; the 4-pole width is the same as three-pole plus one neutral pole in the same frame family, so a panel laid out for a 3VA1063-3ED42-0AA0 (three-pole) will need a wider slot for this four-pole variant. The TM210 release is field-replaceable, and the shunt trip operates on a separate control voltage — verify polarity and voltage rating against your trip circuit before commissioning. Compliance documentation (RoHS, REACH, UL, IEC) is available from Siemens for this SENTRON series; the breaker is designed to IEC 60947-2 and UL 489 standards.
