80 A MCCB with thermal-magnetic release and shunt trip
The Siemens 3VA1080-2ED42-0KA0 is a SENTRON molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) rated for 80 A continuous current at 40 °C, with a 4-pole configuration and a TM210 thermal-magnetic overcurrent release. It carries a shunt trip (STL) auxiliary release for remote tripping, making it suitable for line protection in distribution panels where you need both overload and short-circuit protection plus a remote emergency-off capability.
Breaking capacity across voltage levels
The interrupting rating varies with system voltage: 52.5 kA at 240 V, 32 kA at 415 V, 13.6 kA at 440 V, and 7.5 kA at 690 V. For a 415 V distribution board, the 32 kA SCCR gives solid headroom for most industrial fault-current scenarios without cascading upstream.
Current derating over temperature
The breaker holds full 80 A rating up to 50 °C ambient. Above that, it derates linearly: 76.8 A at 55 °C, 75.2 A at 60 °C, 73.6 A at 65 °C, and 72 A at 70 °C. If your panel runs hot — say near a drive or transformer — factor in that 72 A ceiling at 70 °C when sizing the load.
Physical fit and panel integration
Dimensions are 130 mm height, 101.6 mm width, 70 mm depth. The IP40 front protection means it is suited for installation inside a closed panel or enclosure — not for washdown or outdoor exposure. The 4-pole design handles three-phase plus neutral in a single unit, saving rail space over separate breakers.
Temperature range and storage
Operating ambient range is -25 °C to 70 °C; storage range is -40 °C to 80 °C. The wider storage window matters for spares kept in unheated warehouses — the breaker can sit at -40 °C without damage, but must be above -25 °C to be energized.
