What it is and what it does
The Siemens 3VA1080-3ED36-0DA0 is a SENTRON molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) designed for line protection in distribution panels. It carries an 80 A rated current at 40 °C and a 3-pole configuration, making it a straight fit for 3-phase feeder or branch circuits where you need thermal-magnetic overcurrent protection with an undervoltage release. The TM210 overcurrent release provides fixed thermal and magnetic trip settings — no adjustment dials, which simplifies spec-in and reduces ordering errors.
Breaking capacity — what the voltages mean for your fault level
This MCCB interrupts 75.6 kA at 240 V, 52.5 kA at 415 V, 32 kA at 440 V, and 7.5 kA at both 500 V and 690 V. The steep drop above 440 V is the key constraint: if your system fault current exceeds 7.5 kA at 500/690 V, this breaker is not the right choice — step up to a higher interrupting-rated SENTRON frame. At 415 V, the 52.5 kA rating covers most industrial distribution panels with typical transformer sizes up to 2 MVA.
Thermal derating and panel integration
The 80 A rating holds flat from 40 °C to 50 °C (–), then derates to 78 A at 55 °C, 77 A at 60 °C, 75 A at 65 °C, and 74 A at 70 °C. In a sealed enclosure with multiple breakers ganged, expect the 55–60 °C range — plan for the 77–78 A effective capacity. The 70 mm depth and 76.2 mm width are standard for the SENTRON 3VA frame; it mounts on a DIN rail or directly to a backplate. The 21.7 W maximum power loss is moderate — no forced cooling needed in a ventilated panel, but group several of these in a sealed box and the internal temperature rise will eat into the derating curve.
