Line-side protection with thermal-magnetic trip
The Siemens 3VA1080-3ED36-0KC0 is a 3-pole SENTRON molded case circuit breaker rated for 80 A continuous current at 40 °C, with a TM210 thermal-magnetic overcurrent release for line protection. Its interrupting capacity reaches 75.6 kA at 240 V and 52.5 kA at 415 V, so it clears high-fault bolted shorts without cascading upstream — critical for main or feeder breaker duty in a distribution panel. The breaker carries two HQ auxiliary switches (form C) for remote status feedback, plus a shunt trip release for emergency-off or undervoltage tripping. No communication module or ground-fault monitoring is built in — this is a straight thermal-magnetic line-protection device, not a power-monitoring breaker.
Thermal derating and panel fit
The 80 A rating holds flat from 40 °C to 50 °C, then derates to 76.8 A at 55 °C, 75.2 A at 60 °C, 73.6 A at 65 °C, and 72 A at 70 °C. In a sealed enclosure with multiple breakers ganged, expect to apply the 55 °C or 60 °C column unless you have forced ventilation. Operating ambient range is -25 °C to 70 °C; storage from -40 °C to 80 °C. Dimensions are 130 mm high, 76.2 mm wide, 70 mm deep — a standard 3-pole MCCB footprint for DIN-rail or panel-mount integration. IP40 on the front face means it is protected against tools and wires >1 mm, but not against water ingress; keep it inside a rated enclosure.
