80 A MCCB with high interrupting capacity for line protection
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA1080-3ED42-0DC0 is a 4-pole molded case circuit breaker rated for 80 A continuous current at 40 °C, designed for line protection in distribution panels. It carries a TM210 thermal-magnetic overcurrent release — the fixed thermal element handles overloads, the magnetic trip handles short-circuits up to 75.6 kA at 240 V and 52.5 kA at 415 V. That interrupting capacity means it can clear high-fault events without upstream devices needing to trip, which simplifies coordination in a multi-level distribution system. The breaker includes an undervoltage release (UVR) as standard — when supply voltage drops below the dropout threshold, it opens the breaker instantly. This is common in safety circuits where a loss of control power must disconnect the load. It also ships with 2 auxiliary switches HQ (high-qualified) for remote status indication, so a PLC or SCADA can see open/closed state without an additional contact block.
Thermal derating and ambient temperature
The 80 A rating holds from 40 °C through 50 °C ambient. Above that, the thermal element derates: 76.8 A at 55 °C, 75.2 A at 60 °C, 73.6 A at 65 °C, and 72 A at 70 °C. If this breaker sits in a sealed panel near heat-producing gear (drives, transformers), factor that curve into the load calculation — the nominal 80 A is only good up to 50 °C. Operating ambient range is -25 °C to 70 °C, storage from -40 °C to 80 °C.
Physical fit and panel integration
Dimensions: 70 mm deep, 101.6 mm wide, 130 mm tall. That's a standard 4-pole MCCB footprint — it mounts on a DIN rail or directly to a backplate via the integrated screw terminals. The front face carries IP40 protection, so it's fine for clean indoor panels but not washdown environments. The auxiliary trip unit (order code 3VA9608-0BB25) is a separate accessory that plugs into the breaker's accessory slot.
