What this MCCB delivers
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA1080-4ED32-0DA0 is a 3-pole molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) rated 80 A at 40 °C, built for line protection in distribution panels. Its TM210 thermal-magnetic overcurrent release handles overloads and short-circuits without external trip units. The interrupting capacity hits 121 kA at 240 VAC and 75.6 kA at 415 VAC — enough for high-fault utility feeds or transformer secondaries where SCCR headroom matters. An integrated undervoltage release (UVR) is fitted from the factory, so the breaker drops open if control voltage falls below the dropout threshold — standard for emergency-stop circuits or undervoltage protection schemes. The UVR is part of the auxiliary release design, not a field-added accessory. Rated insulation voltage is 800 V, which covers 480/600 VAC panels with margin. Maximum power loss at rated load is 21.7 W — factor that into enclosure thermal calculations, especially in sealed or high-ambient cabinets.
Current derating and ambient limits
The 80 A rating holds flat from 40 °C through 50 °C. Above that, derating is gradual: 78 A at 55 °C, 77 A at 60 °C, 75 A at 65 °C, and 74 A at 70 °C. Operating ambient range is -25 °C to 70 °C; storage range is -40 °C to 80 °C. If the panel sits in a hot machine room or near a furnace line, the 70 °C ceiling with 74 A continuous is the real limit.
Interrupting capacity by voltage
Breaking capacity drops as system voltage rises: 121 kA at 240 V, 75.6 kA at 415 V, 52.5 kA at 440 V, and 11.9 kA at both 500 V and 690 V. At 480 V systems (common in North America) the 52.5 kA at 440 V is the closest published figure — expect similar or slightly lower at 480 V. For 690 V wind or solar applications, the 11.9 kA rating is the ceiling.
Panel fit and dimensions
Dimensions are 130 mm height, 76.2 mm width, 70 mm depth. The 3-pole frame width (76.2 mm / 3 in) matches standard SENTRON 3VA mounting footprints. Depth of 70 mm leaves clearance behind a 200 mm deep enclosure for wiring and lug access. No communication module or ground-fault monitoring on this variant — pure line protection with the UVR.
