Derating and thermal reality for panel builders
The 3VA1080-4ED36-0HC0: The 80 A rating holds flat from 40 °C through 50 °C. At 55 °C it derates to 76.8 A, at 60 °C to 75.2 A, at 65 °C to 73.6 A, and at 70 °C to 72 A. If your panel ambient runs above 50 °C — common in sealed enclosures with multiple heat sources — size the upstream conductor and downstream bus for the derated figure, not the nameplate 80 A. The breaker measures 76.2 mm wide, 130 mm high, and 70 mm deep, so it fits standard SENTRON 3VA panel footprints. IP40 on the front means it is protected against tools and solid objects over 1 mm but not against water ingress; keep it inside a rated enclosure for washdown areas.
Auxiliary and shunt trip configuration
This variant ships with 2 auxiliary switches (HQ type) and a shunt trip (STL) auxiliary release. The shunt trip allows remote tripping via a separate control voltage — useful for emergency-stop circuits or supervisory shutdown. There is no undervoltage release, no ground fault monitoring, no phase failure detection, and no communication function. The integrated auxiliary trip order code is 3VA9688-0BL30, which is the factory-installed accessory. If you need undervoltage release or ground fault, you are looking at a different 3VA variant.
