What it is and what it does
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA1080-4ED36-0JH0 is a 3-pole molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) rated for line protection in distribution panels. It carries 80 A continuously at 40 °C and derates to 74 A at 70 °C, so the thermal curve is predictable across a typical enclosure ambient range. Breaking capacity is 121 kA at 240 V AC, dropping to 75.6 kA at 415 V and 52.5 kA at 440 V — sufficient for high-fault industrial mains where the available short-circuit current is substantial. At 690 V it still interrupts 11.9 kA, covering most 690 V motor control centers.
Panel integration and fit
The breaker occupies a 76.2 mm wide by 130 mm tall footprint with 70 mm depth behind the panel — standard for a 3-pole SENTRON 3VA frame. Mounts on a DIN rail or directly to a backplate; the compact depth leaves clearance in shallow enclosures. Insulation voltage is rated 800 V, so the breaker is suitable for 690 V line-to-line systems with margin. Power loss at full load is 19.2 W maximum — factor that into enclosure thermal calculations when grouping several breakers.
Auxiliary and release options
This variant ships with two auxiliary switches plus one trip alarm switch (HQ configuration) and a shunt trip release (STL) for remote tripping. The auxiliary contacts are wired to signal breaker status to a PLC or annunciator panel — useful for critical-load monitoring. No undervoltage release, no ground-fault monitoring, and no communication module are fitted on this order code. If those functions are needed, the 3VA family offers alternate variants with UVR, GFI, or PROFIBUS/PROFINET communication — but this specific code is a straight line-protection breaker with shunt trip.
