Breaking capacity — the number that decides selectivity
At 240 V AC this breaker interrupts 121 kA — that's the headline figure for most North American panels. At 415 V it's 75.6 kA, at 440 V it's 52.5 kA, and at 500 V and 690 V it holds at 11.9 kA. Those are the values you need for a coordination study: the 121 kA at 240 V gives you headroom on a high-fault service entrance; the 11.9 kA at 690 V is the ceiling for 690 V industrial feeders.
Thermal derating — 16 A is not 16 A everywhere
At 60 °C it derates to 15 A, and holds there through 70 °C. That means in a tightly packed panel with elevated internal temps you still get 15 A continuous — no need to oversize the frame for a 14 A load.
