What this part is and what it does
The Siemens 3VA1110-1AA36-0AF0 is a SENTRON 3VA1 IEC-frame 160 switch disconnector — a 3-pole, 100 A rated continuous current (Iu) device built in an MCCB-style housing but without overload or short-circuit protection elements inside. It functions purely as a manual load-break switch for isolation and disconnection, rated for AC 50/60 Hz up to 690 V and DC up to 500 V. The front terminal connection and 70 mm depth suit standard panel layouts where a compact disconnect point is needed between a supply and downstream protection.
Ratings and what they mean for fit
The 100 A continuous rating (Iu) sets the maximum uninterrupted current the switch can carry without exceeding a 38 W power loss at full load. The 800 V rated insulation voltage (Ui) and 690 V AC / 500 V DC max operational voltages cover most low-voltage distribution and motor-circuit isolation needs. Short-time withstand is 2 kA for 1 s and also 2 kA for 0.5 s — this is the fault current the disconnector can hold closed during a downstream short until an upstream breaker clears it. The 15 000 latching-endurance cycles indicate mechanical life; electrical life will be lower under load-break duty. The auxiliary contact configuration — 1 normally-open/closed auxiliary switch plus 1 trip alarm switch (HQ type) — gives two CO contacts for status feedback to a PLC or indicator lamp. The trip alarm switch changes state only when the disconnector is tripped (by the optional shunt or undervoltage release, not included here), so it can signal a fault condition separately from the main auxiliary. IP40 on the front means protection against tools and small wires entering the front face, but the sides and rear are not sealed — mount inside an enclosure rated for the environment. Operating temperature range -25 °C to +70 °C; storage from -40 °C to +80 °C. The optional motor drive (product extension) allows remote motorized operation if needed later.
Where it sits in the panel
The 3VA1 frame is designed for DIN-rail or panel-mount installation in a distribution board or control cabinet. At 76.2 mm wide (roughly 4.5 module spaces on a 17.5 mm DIN grid) and 130 mm tall, it fits alongside standard SENTRON MCBs and other 3VA breakers. The front terminal connection keeps wiring accessible from the front, simplifying gland-plate layout. The IP40 front rating means the disconnector can be mounted behind a door or cover; no additional front sealing is required for basic splash protection.
