Line protection MCCB with high interrupting capacity
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA1110-4EE42-0AA0 is a 4-pole molded case circuit breaker rated for line protection, carrying 100 A continuously at 40 °C with no derating needed up to 50 °C. The TM220 thermal-magnetic release handles overload and short-circuit protection in one package — the thermal element tracks load heating, the magnetic element clears faults fast. Breaking capacity hits 121 kA at 240 V AC, 76 kA at 415 V, and still holds 53 kA at 440 V, so it handles high-fault utility feeds and transformer secondaries without cascading upstream breakers.
What the ratings mean for panel fit
At 100 A continuous, this MCCB feeds a main distribution bus or a large motor control center feeder. The 4-pole configuration covers three-phase plus neutral switching — common in North American and IEC panels where the neutral must be switched for service disconnect. The TM220 release means the thermal pickup is fixed (not adjustable), so coordination studies should verify the long-time band against downstream branch breakers. IP40 on the front protects against tools and small wires entering the enclosure face; the breaker itself mounts in a standard panel cutout, not a DIN rail.
Thermal performance across the panel ambient range
Rated 100 A from 40 °C through 50 °C ambient, then derates gradually: 98 A at 55 °C, 96 A at 60 °C, 94 A at 65 °C, and 91 A at 70 °C. If the panel ambient runs hot — say, near a drive cabinet or in a roof-top enclosure — the 70 °C figure still delivers 91 A, which is 91 % of nameplate. The maximum power loss of 25 W is dissipated through the breaker housing; adjacent devices in a dense panel should be spaced per the manufacturer's mounting guidelines to avoid heat stacking.
