Breaking capacity and thermal derating
The 3VA1110-5EF36-0BC0: The 187 kA at 240 V is the highest interrupting rating on this breaker; at 415 V it drops to 121 kA, at 440 V to 75.6 kA, and at 690 V to 17 kA. These are the maximum fault currents the breaker can safely clear at each voltage — critical for selectivity studies and SCCR compliance in a panel. The rated continuous current Iu is 100 A, and the breaker holds that rating from 40 °C through 50 °C. Above that, derating applies: 96 A at 55 °C, 94 A at 60 °C, 92 A at 65 °C, and 90 A at 70 °C. If the panel ambient runs hot, the 100 A frame still carries the load at reduced current — plan the branch circuit accordingly.
Fit and integration
The 3VA1110-5EF36-0BC0 measures 130 mm high, 76.2 mm wide, and 70 mm deep — a compact footprint for a 100 A MCCB. It is designed for panel mounting, not DIN rail; the width matches the standard SENTRON 3VA base frame. IP40 on the front means it is protected against tools and small wires entering the enclosure, but not against water ingress — keep it inside a sealed panel for washdown environments. The breaker ships with an undervoltage release (UVR) and 2 auxiliary switches (HQ type). The UVR trips the breaker when control voltage drops below a threshold — a standard safety interlock for motor circuits and emergency-stop chains. The auxiliary contacts provide status feedback to a PLC or indication lamp.
