Line protection breaker, 4-pole, 100 A — what the ratings mean for fit
The Siemens 3VA1110-5FF42-0AA0 is a 4-pole SENTRON molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) rated for line protection. It carries 100 A continuous at 45 °C ambient — that's the current it passes without tripping in a warm panel. At 50 °C it still holds 100 A; at 55 °C it derates to 98 A, at 60 °C to 96 A, at 65 °C to 94 A, and at 70 °C to 91 A (–). If your panel runs hot, that derating curve is the one that decides fit, not the nominal 100 A. The interrupting capacity is the headline number that matters for fault clearing: 187 kA at 240 V, 121 kA at 415 V, 75.6 kA at 440 V, and 17 kA at both 500 V and 690 V (–). That means it safely interrupts faults up to those levels without cascading upstream — critical for high-fault installations like transformer secondaries or large motor control centers. The TM240 thermal-magnetic release gives adjustable short-circuit pickup up to 1000 A. Front IP40 protection means it's protected against tools and small wires entering the front face — standard for enclosed panel mounting. No communication module, no ground-fault monitoring. The N-conductor protection is set at 50%.
DIN-rail panel fit — dimensions and integration
At 70 mm deep, 101.6 mm wide, and 130 mm tall, this 4-pole MCCB fits standard SENTRON panel footprints. The width is the critical dimension for DIN-rail spacing: 101.6 mm is exactly 4 inches — a standard 4-module width on most DIN-rail mounting plates. Depth of 70 mm leaves room behind the gland plate for wiring and busbar connections. Operating temperature range is -25 °C to 70 °C (–); storage range is -40 °C to 80 °C (–).
