What this 3VA1 MCCB carries
The Siemens 3VA1110-5MH36-0KH0 is a 3-pole IEC frame 160 molded case circuit breaker with a 100 A continuous rating and a 55 kA interrupting capacity at 415 V AC (breaking capacity class M). That 55 kA figure at 415 V means it can safely clear a fault up to that level without upstream devices needing to coordinate — useful for high-fault panels downstream of a large transformer. It ships with a TM120M thermal-magnetic trip unit configured for starter protection (AM characteristic), adjustable short-circuit pickup Ii = 5...15 x In. The thermal element is fixed at 100 A; there is no separate overload relay in the package — this breaker provides the short-circuit protection leg for a motor starter combination, not the full overload function. The integrated shunt trip (STL) operates on 220-250 V DC or 208-277 V AC, letting a remote emergency-stop or PLC-based trip signal open the breaker without a separate contactor. Two auxiliary switches (HQ) and one trip alarm switch (HQ) are factory-installed, so the panel builder gets status feedback and a separate alarm contact without adding accessory kits.
Panel and integration notes
Clamp-type line and load terminals accept copper or aluminum conductors — no lug kit needed for most panel builds. The 3VA1 frame 160 footprint is standard for Siemens IEC switchgear; it occupies the same panel cutout and bus-bar spacing as other 3VA1 breakers, so a panel layout designed for a 160 A frame accepts this 100 A unit without re-drilling. The shunt trip coil draws power only during the trip event. Verify the control supply matches the STL rating (220-250 V DC or 208-277 V AC) before wiring.
