What this MCCB is and what it does
The Siemens 3VA1110-6FD42-0AA0 is a SENTRON molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) rated for line protection, carrying 100 A continuously at 45 °C and 50 °C, with a thermal-magnetic TM210 overcurrent release. Four poles handle three-phase plus neutral, with the neutral conductor protection set at 50 % of the phase rating. This is the high-interrupting-capacity variant: 220 kA at 240 V, 154 kA at 415 V, 121 kA at 440 V, and still 17 kA at 500 V and 690 V — numbers that put it squarely in the heavy industrial fault-current class, not a light commercial MCCB.
Current derating and thermal behaviour
The 100 A rating holds at 45 °C and 50 °C ambient. Above that, the thermal curve is published: 98 A at 55 °C, 96 A at 60 °C, 94 A at 65 °C, 91 A at 70 °C. If your panel internal ambient runs hot — say, a packed enclosure with drives — size the upstream conductor and load for the derated figure at your actual cabinet temperature, not the 100 A nameplate. The maximum power loss is 25 W, which is modest for a 100 A frame but still matters in a sealed, non-ventilated enclosure.
Breaking capacity by voltage — what it means for selectivity
At 240 V the 220 kA rating is essentially unlimited for any North American 277/480 V panelboard application — you will not outrun this breaker on available fault current at that voltage. At 415 V (common in IEC 50 Hz industrial plants) the 154 kA still covers the vast majority of installations. The drop to 17 kA at 500 V and 690 V is the key constraint: if your system runs 690 V with a high transformer kVA, verify the available fault current at the point of installation stays under 17 kA, or step up to a higher-frame 3VA variant. The 800 V rated insulation voltage (Ui) and 600 V max DC operational rating confirm this breaker is designed for 690 V AC systems, but the interrupting capacity at that voltage is the binding limit.
Physical fit and panel integration
The 3VA1110-6FD42-0AA0 measures 130 mm high, 101.6 mm wide, and 70 mm deep. The 4-inch (101.6 mm) width is the standard 4-pole MCCB footprint for the 3VA frame — it occupies the same panel cutout as other 3VA 4-pole units. Front IP40 protection means it is suitable for a clean indoor panel; no gasketing for washdown. The design accepts an optional motor drive (Product Extension entry confirms Yes), so remote trip or reclose via a motor operator is possible without changing the breaker frame.
