What it is and what it does
The Siemens 3VA1116-1AA32-0JH0 is a SENTRON 3VA1 switch disconnector in MCCB design — a 3-pole, 160 A rated continuous current (Iu) device built for safe isolation and switching under load, not for overcurrent protection. It carries no overload or short-circuit release; its job is to provide a visible-break disconnect point in a distribution or motor feeder circuit, with a shunt trip (STL) coil rated 110–127 V DC/AC for remote or emergency-off tripping. Rated insulation voltage Ui is 800 V, max operational voltage 690 V AC 50/60 Hz and 500 V DC. That puts it comfortably inside standard 400/480 VAC industrial panels and most 500 VDC battery or converter circuits. The front terminal busbar connection means it lands directly on a busbar stack — no lug terminals on the line side — so panel layout needs to account for that busbar interface rather than individual cable entry. The auxiliary contact block is factory-fitted: 2 CO auxiliary switches HQ plus 1 trip alarm switch HQ. That gives three independent signal paths — two for status feedback (open/closed) and one dedicated to trip indication. The trip alarm switch changes state only when the shunt trip or a manual trip event operates the mechanism, so a PLC or annunciator gets a clean, latched signal that a fault trip occurred.
Integration and mounting
The 3VA1 frame measures 70 mm deep, 76.2 mm wide, 130 mm tall — a standard MCCB footprint that fits a 3-pole slot in a SENTRON distribution panel or a DIN-rail adapter plate. IP40 on the front means it is protected against tools and solid objects larger than 1 mm; the interior of the enclosure must provide the rest of the IP rating. The busbar connection on the main circuit uses a front-terminal arrangement, so busbar runs need to terminate at the front face of the breaker — not at the rear or side. Maximum power loss is 38 W at rated current. That is the heat the disconnect dissipates in a closed, loaded state — relevant for enclosure thermal calculations, especially in a sealed or high-ambient cabinet. Operating temperature range is -25 °C to +70 °C; storage range -40 °C to +80 °C. The mechanical endurance is 15,000 operating cycles, which is typical for a switch disconnector in this frame size — adequate for daily switching in a production line, not for continuous high-cycle duty.
