Switch disconnector for isolation duty — 160 A, no overcurrent protection
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA1116-1AA36-0CH0 is a 3-pole switch disconnector in MCCB-style construction, rated for 160 A continuous current (Iu) with a max AC operational voltage of 690 V and DC voltage of 500 V. It is designed purely for isolation and switching — no overload or short-circuit protection elements inside. This makes it the right choice for a load-break disconnect ahead of a downstream protection device, or as a manual disconnect switch in a distribution panel where the upstream breaker handles fault interruption.
Undervoltage release fitted — 120–127 V AC coil
This unit ships with an undervoltage release (UVR) wired for 120–127 V AC 50/60 Hz. When control voltage drops below the dropout threshold, the UVR trips the disconnector open — standard practice for motor feeder isolation where loss of control power should disconnect the load. The UVR does not include a leading contact, so the coil is energized continuously during normal operation. Verify the control circuit can supply the holding current before panel integration.
Auxiliary and alarm contacts — 2 HQ aux + 1 trip alarm
Three CO contacts are built in: two auxiliary switches (HQ — high-quality silver-alloy contacts for signal-level reliability) and one trip alarm switch that changes state when the disconnector opens via the UVR or manual handle. These give the PLC or BMS a positive feedback signal for switch position and fault status, without needing an external contact block.
Physical fit and panel integration
Footprint: 76.2 mm wide, 130 mm tall, 70 mm deep — standard 3-pole MCCB-style cutout. Front terminals accept clamp-type connections for the main circuit. IP40 on the front face means it's protected against tools and wires >1 mm, but not against water ingress; install inside a panel with a door. The 3VA1 frame accepts optional motor drive for remote switching.
