What it is and what it does
The Siemens 3VA1116-1AA36-0HH0 is a SENTRON switch disconnector built in an MCCB (molded case circuit breaker) form factor. It is rated for 160 A continuous at 40 °C through 50 °C, with a shallow derating curve: 158 A at 55 °C, 155 A at 60 °C, 153 A at 65 °C, and 150 A at 70 °C. This means in a warm enclosure you lose only about 6% of capacity at the top end — usable in most standard panels without oversizing. It has no overload or short-circuit protection — this is a pure disconnect, not a breaker. The built-in shunt trip release (STL) accepts 12–30 V DC or 24 V AC 50/60 Hz, so you can remote-trip it from an emergency stop circuit or a PLC digital output. Two auxiliary switches HQ plus one trip alarm switch HQ give status feedback for the panel controller.
Panel fit and wiring
Dimensions are 70 mm deep, 76.2 mm wide, 130 mm tall — the standard 3VA frame size. Front terminal connections accept clamp-type wiring for the main circuit. The IP40 front protection means it is suited for enclosed panel mounting where no water jets hit the face. Mechanical service life is 15 000 operating cycles typical, which covers most switching and isolation duty in distribution boards. Maximum power loss is 38 W at rated current — factor that into your enclosure thermal calculation if the panel is densely packed. Insulation voltage is rated 800 V, operating voltage 690 V AC or 500 V DC.
