Switch disconnector, 160 A, with shunt trip
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA1116-1AA36-0JA0 is a 3-pole switch disconnector built in an MCCB-style frame, rated for a continuous current of 160 A. It's designed for isolation and switching of loads up to 690 V AC or 500 V DC, without overload or short-circuit protection — that's the disconnector role, not a breaker. The integrated shunt trip release (STL) operates on 110-127 V DC or AC, letting you remote-trip the device from a control system or emergency-stop circuit.
What the ratings mean for fit
The 160 A continuous rating (Iu) sets the maximum load it can carry without exceeding temperature limits — sized for a feeder or large motor branch circuit. The 690 V AC / 500 V DC maximum operational voltage covers standard 400 V three-phase panels and 480 V industrial supplies, with headroom for 690 V applications. The 38 W maximum power loss at rated current matters for enclosure thermal management; if you're packing several of these in a panel, that heat adds up. IP40 on the front means it's protected against tools and small wires but not water — fine for a dry indoor cabinet.
