Switch disconnector for isolation and switching duty
The Siemens 3VA1116-1AA36-0JH0 is a SENTRON 3VA1 switch disconnector in MCCB design, rated for 160 A continuous current (Iu) on a 160 A frame. It provides no-fault isolation — no overload or short-circuit protection — making it a pure disconnect for maintenance or load-break switching on AC circuits up to 690 V 50/60 Hz and DC circuits up to 500 V.
What the ratings mean for the panel
The 160 A continuous rating matches the frame size, so it carries full-rated current without derating at 40 °C ambient. The 690 V AC insulation voltage (Ui) gives headroom for 480 V and 600 V class systems; the 500 V DC rating covers common battery and DC bus applications. The shunt trip (STL) release operates on 110–127 V DC or AC — useful for remote emergency-off or interlock circuits. The auxiliary contact pack includes two HQ auxiliary switches plus one HQ trip alarm switch, giving three CO contacts for status feedback to a PLC or indication panel.
Mounting and environment
Front-terminal connection with clamp terminals simplifies panel wiring. The 70 mm depth, 76.2 mm width, and 130 mm height fit standard 3-pole MCCB cutouts in distribution boards and enclosures. IP40 on the front means it is protected against tools and small solid objects — fine for a dry indoor panel, but not for washdown or outdoor exposure. Operating range from -25 °C to 70 °C covers most control-room and machine-cabinet conditions.
