What this part is and what it does
The Siemens 3VA1116-1AA46-0AA0 is a SENTRON switch disconnector in an MCCB-style housing — 4-pole, rated 160 A continuous at 40 °C, with a 690 V AC / 600 V DC operating voltage ceiling and an 800 V rated insulation voltage. It is designed for load-break isolation without overload or short-circuit protection (no trip unit, no undervoltage release, no auxiliary contacts). The front-terminal clamp connection and IP40 front face suit panel-mount distribution boards where a visible-break disconnect is required ahead of downstream protection.
Current rating across temperature — the real working limit
This disconnector holds its full 160 A rating from 40 °C through 50 °C. Above that, the thermal derating is gradual: 158 A at 55 °C, 155 A at 60 °C, 153 A at 65 °C, and 150 A at 70 °C. If the panel ambient runs above 50 °C, the continuous load must be trimmed by those margins — the datasheet curve is the binding limit, not the nameplate.
Physical fit and environmental limits
Dimensions: 130 mm height, 101.6 mm width, 70 mm depth. The front terminal arrangement and clamp connection accept copper or aluminium conductors. Operating temperature range is -25 °C to +70 °C; storage range is -40 °C to +80 °C. Maximum power dissipation is 38 W at rated load. The IP40 front face protects against tools and small wires but is not rated for washdown or outdoor exposure.
Mechanical endurance and optional motor drive
Typical mechanical service life is 15,000 operating cycles. The product accepts an optional motor drive (field-installable) for remote switching, though no communication function is built in. No auxiliary contacts or releases are included on this variant.
