What it is and what it does
The Siemens 3VA1116-3ED32-0AA0 is a SENTRON molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) rated for line protection in distribution panels. It carries a 160 A continuous current at 40 °C and uses a TM210 thermal-magnetic overcurrent release — the thermal element handles overloads, the magnetic element clears short-circuits. The 3-pole design fits three-phase feeders. Breaking capacity is voltage-dependent: 75.6 kA at 240 V, 52.5 kA at 415 V, 32 kA at 440 V, and 11.9 kA at both 500 V and 690 V. That means the breaker can safely interrupt a fault up to those levels without welding contacts or cascading upstream — a key figure for selectivity studies.
Thermal derating and panel fit
The 160 A rating holds up to 50 °C ambient; above that it derates linearly to 150 A at 70 °C. If the panel runs hot — near a transformer or in a crowded enclosure — use the 60 °C column (155 A) or 70 °C column (150 A) for your load calculation. The breaker measures 70 mm deep, 76.2 mm wide, and 130 mm high, so it occupies a standard 3-pole MCCB footprint on the DIN rail or mounting plate. Insulation voltage is rated 800 V, and the front face carries IP40 protection — suitable for enclosed panel mounting, not for washdown environments.
